  • (00:00) hi I'm Angela Non I'm Ariana Kempis and this is brb [Music] crying hello everyone welcome back to brb crying I'm Ariana also known as Arns and I'm Angela also known as Nins and and happy New Year Happy New Year we are opening up season 3 of this podcast where two best friends two best friends oh my God two best friends sit on a couch we laugh we cry we explain why we are here to talk about our feelings in a very approachable like super chill way

(01:03) you know we're so chill chill we're so cool we're so approachable in each of our episodes the two of us find something in this world in this lifetime that has moved us to tears and we gossip to each other about it beautiful welcome welcome to all of you new listeners welcome back to all of our crybabies hope you missed us just a as much as we missed you yeah I'm excited to be back it's been a nice little break we've had M for any of you new listeners we did set out to have weekly episodes and very quickly found out that

(01:47) that's really [ __ ] hard when you do everything yourself okay so we do 10 episode batches so if you're tuning in for the first time this is the beginning as an in set of our third season and uh it's 2025 crazy crazy crazy I saw a thing that was like I'm so ready for precedented times but I don't think we're going to get that no so now that we're in a New Year do you have any burning resolutions you want to share oh gosh um I think I'm trying to be kinder to myself as we all should as we all should I feel like I say that all the time that's

(02:36) great it's an ongoing Journey it is you know it really is this year I'm going to be so [ __ ] nice to myself love that energy yeah how are you um I know I already mentioned it to you offline but uh one you probably forgot and two it relates to my story so I'll talk about it later okay mean you don't remember every single convers that we have ever you don't have a catalog listen imagine trying to remember everything that we talked about in the last time we hung out for 10 hours straight it's kind of hard we did do

(03:12) that we did hang out for 10 hours a couple days ago was cool I missed that good we had a friend's Miss at your house and you purposely were like let's do it at 1: p.m. so this can last as long as possible and we really did stay because I knew it you know yeah but that's the thing it's just like when all of our friends are together no one wants to leave no you know no yeah and like I think we only left out of obligation yeah not because like all right I'm done with this we could just keep going yeah you know because my child was crying

(03:48) because we were so loud oh my God party pooper my God yeah what a baby all right well did you have a good holiday I did yeah yeah any highlights or will you tell me later what I'm going to talk about okay okay okay um what about you it was lowkey I think we had a lot of like events that our social battery by the time it was New Year's Eve I was like dude I'm not [ __ ] doing anything we're going to chill nice so that's what we did ended the year soft nice which was nice love it um I do have an announcement lay it on me so

(04:30) I don't know how many times I need to say this there are so many of you incredible crybabies out there so many listeners every week so many down so many downloads oh my God it's crazy how many downloads uh I'm like not even being sarcastic right now I no I was going to say not being sarcastic we actually did see a huge Spike after getting featured on Apple podcast us yeah so uh we love that energy but those reviews it's not quite adding up unless there's only like 30 people who just keep listening and redownloading over

(05:13) and over again which love you but yes but in order to encourage those of you who are a little Shyer we're doing a little giveaway and if you write a review for us screenshot it send us a DM that you wrote it send us a little email we will enter you into our drawing to win a beb crying hat so write that review I don't know if I have to say this five stars only tell us how much you love us yeah and we'll reward you with a Chance [Laughter] someone was like all right [  ] these girls I'm not listening to this [  ] in

(06:04) fact one star yeah it's true we'll reward you with a chance to win a hat but uh all in good fun all in good fun so yeah listen to arens write us a review join the community and we'll be your best friends yeah and we can match and wear hats together mhm maybe if you win okay okay I think that's enough BS to start off the year plenty um I think you should start us off today okay open us up okay I'd love to folks I have an iPad in front of me for the first time ever I actually don't know how to unlock it I'm borrowing it

(06:58) from someone cuz I'm [  ] cheap as [  ] and I won't buy my own okay so no more little guessing games I know we like to do that but you know I'm Rusty I'm just going to Dive Right In I know dude why do I feel so Rusty because we were on a break for like 2 months I know but it's like babe it's just talking I know it's not just talking it's storytelling it's performing to be a woman is to perform okay okay so as you know I recently went on a trip to Asia over this Christmas break I want to preface this all by the way by saying I

(07:34) obviously acknowledge travel such a huge privilege and I'm always grateful for every chance I get to partake in it so we went to Asia and we went to Bali in the Philippines my sister enrolled her kids in a world schooling program in Bali and it's this month-long program that kind of emphasizes experiential learning and cultural immersion and it's really [ __ ] cool that these programs exist I didn't know that before she had told me about this but it kind of challenges the way we approach education and you know

(08:12) how [ __ ] our education system is so we decided to tag along for a little bit and joy and I had been to Bali before you might remember this because you were there I was there uh it was many many moons ago so we were much younger and at that time it was definitely more about just like hanging out and like partying and like we went no we went to a club do you remember yeah but we went to a club at like 8:00 p.m.

(08:46) because we didn't want our driver to wait out too long for us and then we left at like 10: yeah regardless you know drinking hanging out going to the beach touristy stuff so I thought it was going to be more of the same when we went to Bali this time just hanging out not the partying but I thought it would be just pretty low key and it was but it was also so much more than that so I figured I just I would talk about the uh the one time that I cried on this trip but first context and by context I mean let me just complain for a little bit about

(09:28) like the really low point of our trip which I was posting somewhat real time on stories like on Instagram so I know a lot of people were like oh my God like what happened so if you're one of those people let me lay it out for you if you're not one of those people you have no idea what I'm talking about some kind of shitty stuff happened while we were on this trip and I had to talk about it so we had a few mishaps I know I mentioned this to you before SAA had an allergic reaction before we even [ __ ] took off from the flight we literally

(10:01) walked to our row and she [ __ ] threw up everywhere full body hives it was sick dude it was so cool all over me smelled like V it was 17 hour flight you know I smelled terrible and then halfway through I also threw up so it wasn't just her so that was cool she also had another little allergy attack like in Bali I don't think I mentioned that but it was just like it's really hard traveling it's really hard traveling with a baby with severe food allergies I mean we made it work but I was like okay this is the this is the low point it

(10:37) can't get worse than this low and behold so halfway through our trip we decided we were going to go to UB which is famous for its Rice Terraces and people are always on that you know that swing everyone goes to the swing so we had plans to go there and stay for a couple days at this beautiful beautiful Airbnb it was smack dab in the middle of the forest or I guess it was kind of like jungle babe you're looking at the wrong girl it was smack dab in the middle of the Jungle I was outside for 30 minutes today like accomplishment

(11:17) don't ask me what the difference is what is the difference between a rainforest and a jungle I just said don't ask me you know I have an iPad now so I guess I could look it up but yeah it was like remote and Lush stunning we walk through the gate of the villa and this gorgeous pool welcomes us on the ground floor and then we walk upstairs and we realize that the whole living area is open air so the kitchen the living room it's perched on a balcony overlooking this pool and of course when I was booking this I forgot

(11:56) I had a one-year-old I did not look very carefully I was just outdoor bathrooms like in you know I was so swayed by how beautiful the Aesthetics were that didn't really think through the logistics the railing posts were like over a [ __ ] foot wide she could literally slip through like she wouldn't even have to try very hard she could just like walk through and like Plum it so we were there for an hour while she was napping and we were like oh my God what do we do what do we do what do we do and then after that hour we were like

(12:27) we can't do this like our anxiety was so heightened and you know we only get so Much Vacation a year we're like we're going to spend like 4 days here just [ __ ] panicking like every second someone has to have their eyes on her and so we canceled our booking and we like drove all the way back to where we had come from and we were so bummed like we didn't get our money back we lost our money this entire leg of the trip like what we had booked all scrapped and of course feel like it's all my fault because I was the one who

(13:03) was like I'm going to stay here you know and we fight I I did cry I'm I'm not going to talk about that but it was just you know it was just really shitty it was like I was most looking forward to this part of the trip and then like it just didn't come to fruition yeah and do you remember me telling you like when you had shared those stories about what happened to you m I weirdly was like that whole week I was like I feel like Arn is going through something right now it was so weird like across the Pacific Ocean I was I

(13:41) literally turned to Lou and I was like I feel like something's happening on their trip right now I feel like her energy is off oh and I didn't know I had no idea and then you shared that and I was like wa that's crazy it was really bad it was really bad and so of course I cannot relax until I solve the problem so like later that night after the fighting and the crying mhm I'm like Googling like familyfriendly Resorts like please like just give me a place where I can go to the bathroom and not panic about my

(14:18) child jumping off a ledge so I'm scrolling scrolling scrolling and I find this place and it looks [  ] sick and by [  ] sick I saw the word zero waste and I was like book I hardly like looked through it I was just like it looks cool from the pictures price was very decent and so I booked it and I kind of hate like everything happens for a reason but I really do feel like this was the best mistake I could have made going to booking that airbn be and it falling through because we booked this Resort we ended up staying there for the

(14:55) next 4 days and we have an idea that it's it's going to be pretty cool cuz it looked cool and then we pull up and we're like oh and turns out we booked a [ __ ] Wellness Resort and I did contemplate gatekeeping this place but out of the goodness of my heart I will share it is called Potato Head sweets and studios in Bali I don't know if you remember this but Potato Head Beach Club it was like a really really popular Beach Club in Bali I think we might have actually gone I was going to say Potato Head sounds yeah

(15:30) familiar yeah yeah yeah really popular Beach Club and that's how they started but then in the time since we had gone to Bali it became like such a bigger thing and so on their website they call themselves a creative Village that embodies the world we want to live create and dream in so we check in and they welcome us with this shot of like an herbal Elixir called jamu and a little zero waste kit that we could bring over with us while we're on the resort like stainless steel water bottles for us to like fill up and as

(16:05) they're talking us through this me and Joy are kind of looking at each other like where where are we and then we get to the room and we see the spread for activities for the whole week and I was expecting like I don't know maybe I actually don't know what I was expecting I actually did not expect anything at all I expected a cool room which it was but there was a whole spread of activities for the week some were paid some were free but there was like incense making and sunrise yoga and meditation and traditional Bolognese

(16:42) healing sessions and hypnotherapy and travel astrology and traditional Chinese medicine breath work like it just went on and on and I was like going to [ __ ] myself I was like oh my God like I Googled familyfriendly Resorts like how did we stump um upon this place and it was a dream it was everything that joy and I seek to embody like in our everyday lives just condensed in this place and I also wanted to share from their website so under the wellness section or well-being section it says marasa Indonesian for to

(17:22) feel invites you to discover a path to well-being that is Uniquely Yours to intuitively feel the needs of your body in mind doing things the Potato Head way we honor the philosophy of Duality within balones culture embracing both peace and pleasure to gently guide you towards a natural inner balance well-being is not a destination but an ongoing journey and I don't know if I've ever stayed at a place where I've felt such energetic alignment I think that's what was different about this place the staff like knew SAA by name we would walk by

(17:59) like hi hi and like we would spend hours just roaming the whole property and swimming and reading and napping and just nourishing ourselves they have a whole like plant-based restaurant on top of all their other places to eat but just existing in this beautiful place and honestly until we got there I just didn't even know places like that existed every corner is infused with intention and pleasure acts as a portal of discovering yourself and I don't know it just made me realize that even if my own day-to-day life isn't nearly as lavish

(18:45) as staying at this Wellness Resort it doesn't mean that I can't find ways to infuse my own life with more of what I want and less of what I don't I could spend my day scrambling around like trying to check off off these items on my to-do list but when I was there I realized like what like what does any of it mean if I'm not even enjoying myself in all these routine things and also why do we demonize pleasure if it makes our experience on this honestly really [ __ ] shitty Earth just a little less shitty so in short these 4 days just completely

(19:30) revolutionized how I spend my waking hours and what I want to dedicate my time to this year like today for instance you know I wake up at like [ __ ] 4: or 5: a.m. I woke up and I meditated a little and then I was like I think I'm just going to go back to sleep I think I can go back to sleep and then I went back to sleep for like another hour and then I ate my lunch just like sitting in the sunshine and like I burned incense like I was working and it was just oh my god there are so many things that I can do to just Infuse

(20:04) my life with pleasure and I don't know I was just reminded that there is very little that I have to do and in recognizing that I able to make space for more of what I actually really want to do so when did I cry you ask dear listener so at the end of this 4-day stay we catch really early morning flight and I don't know what this always happens it's always like a a drive in the dark we're passing the sights as we're heading to the airport I always cry always cry when I'm leaving a place heading to the airport and I was wistful

(20:47) about leaving what was essentially my definition of paradise but more than that I felt like I was leaving a part of myself behind and and in exchange I was given this new shiny piece that didn't quite fit with the rest of me and in that moment I realized that the beautiful thing about opening ourselves up to new experiences whether it's like traveling the world or even just trying something new for the first time we humble ourselves to be changed over and over again the people we are before and after are so different and the very core of our being

(21:37) shifts and rearranges and for a moment in time we're taken out of ourselves and shown that life can be different and we can be different and it can be scary to realize that you're not the same as you were before this experience you know what if these old Parts don't fit with this new self that I've found but that's growth and we can either stay exactly as we are and give into that fear of the unknown or we can open our hearts to this transformation and trust that in the same way we can change over and over again we can also find ourselves over

(22:18) and over again and so I wanted to end with this quote when you enter the hotel room there's a little video a welcome video they played obviously gorgeous but it was highlighting Erica Badu who had done a little stint there and she had done you know performances and classes and stuff like that and in this video she says I feel I was called to be here to touch the trees here to bow with those who bow here to bring back together parts of myself I feel very familiar with this place and I'm welcomed here I feel that

(22:56) and I feel it familiar to me so should we book a flight or it's funny because after our last trip I had a lot of fun but I wasn't I wasn't absolutely dying to go back and I was like if I went back that would be fun but I wasn't like I really really got to go back and so when we booked this I was pretty excited but I was like oh you know I'd been there before you know how it is where it's like oh I've been there before though like I only get so Much Vacation a year like shouldn't I go somewhere new mhm but I feel like I

(23:25) just experienced another a whole side of it that I didn't even know existed and I'm so so grateful and I can't genuinely like I can't wait to go back mhm do you want to come sure okay cool yeah I mean I know it's annoying because we have this like oh how many countries have I been to right but you don't go back to the same place when you are no longer the same person you see it differently there are things that are more important to you there are things that you prioritize TI I mean I I'm not surprised that this one

(24:02) was a much more grounding experience because we went when we were in our 20s and I was the dumbest [ __ ] you would ever met like I think I was Dumber but zero Direction you know just like there for more vain reasons yeah and now that we're in this stage of life we're we're really trying to uncover the meaning of everything I'm really glad that you stumbled upon this place that gave you a pretty big cheat code to discovering what it was yeah oh and this I forgot to mention leaving that place I was like oh this is what I want my New Year's

(24:47) resolution to be I want to explore different healing modalities like every month I want to oh that's right I want to try something I do remember you saying this to me oh you do yeah because there are so many things that I have always wanted to try but I've just never prioritized it and this made me realize like oh my God I want to do these things so badly what am I waiting for what's your first one well I did one when I was there I did a travel astrology consultation yeah yeah um I don't know I don't know maybe hypnotherapy maybe a

(25:19) past lives regression that one has been on both of our minds for such a long time exactly and it's like okay well what am I waiting for you know like we're waiting for sponsors to pay for it charge it to the [Music] card lay it on me my turn your turn all right so to start us off I got to ease Us in with a quick little childhood memory of me reading Harry Potter for the first time ooh not what I'm going to be talking about today but just just a a nice opener okay so I remember when Harry was on his way to Hogwarts he was

(26:09) on the Hogwarts Express and then he arrives to his first Great Hall feast and so much of that first book was World building right you got this kid in the UK but he's also entering into this m magical Wizarding World and the book is describing all of these Fantastical settings and explaining magic and everything was just brand new right so me an ignorant uncultured 9-year-old American read about Harry experiencing and trying all of these Wizarding Foods right like the chocolate frogs the pumpkin pasties trle tart butterbeer fizzing

(27:03) wispies what about the jelly beans birdie Bots oh yeah yeah yeah all of it disgusting 50/50 chance that it's disgusting which are too high too high um and I thought wo cool like yes mouth watering such magic such Wonder right and it genuinely wasn't until I was in my mid 20s that I realized that trle Tarts weren't a make believe fantasy sweet treat but were in fact a real British baked dessert it took me until 32 years to learn that I'm not the only one right like just you know I got an iPad [ __ ] Googling this

(27:51) [  ] what the [  ] it's like a it almost looks like a pie like a tart but it's like butter and and what something that the Brits call Golden syrup I'm so hungry oh my God a little bit of lemon okay okay but yeah trial tart is a beloved baked dish that actually existed centuries before the publishing of this series that every British kid 100% glossed over while I sat there like racking my brains like oh man like what could this be you know as it turns out baking in the UK is a big [ __ ] deal mhm 31-year-old me scoffs at 9-year-old

(28:36) baby an because now I consider myself to be somewhat of an expert on British baking no just kidding let's call myself Advanced be no let's call myself an intermediate novice okay in baking and that is all thanks to my hyperfixation on a beloved TV show known around the world as the Great British big off have you ever watched this um jelina and mios would always watch it so I would tune in okay when they would watch okay okay during the pandemic I feel like it was really strong my hyperfixation I think started 2018 2019

(29:20) okay okay okay so my sources for today are the Great British Bake offs website an article post posted by he'sthe dish.com and then a Tik Tok posted by Henrietta Shaw so the Great British Bake Off if you don't know is a talized British baking competition produced by Love Productions and It first aired in 2010 in the UK and was later released on Netflix in 2017 since it start in 2010 10 there have been 15 Seasons the Brits actually call it series but that's confusing for us dumb Americans so Seasons yes also quick

(30:10) aside the US actually changed the name of the show to the Great British baking show because Pillsbury owns the copyright to the phrase Bake Off what yeah wait I didn't even know that because everyone says bake off that's because that's what it's known like all around the world and here capitalism is King and we just yes it is take ownership of phrases so that's why it's called the Great British baking Show on Netflix in the US all right so I know you said that you've watched the show before so you're familiar with the format but to all of

(30:49) our crybabies here that haven't seen an episode before let me just lay out the land so this competition takes place in what appears to be the English Countryside in a makeshift Garden tent over the series of 10 weeks and the show is cute and it's whimsical and it's very low stakes comforting and peaceful and in the competition we have two hosts they've gone through several different hosts over the last 15 Seasons but they're mainly there for comic relief getting the contestants to open opening up and just kind of structure the show and then

(31:33) you have a dozen Bakers these are amateur Bakers who join this competition and they are all tasked with three baking challenges per episode you have a signature bake you have a technical bake and then you have a showstopper and each of these bakes are then presented and taste tested by two judges is and at the end of the episode a star Baker is awarded like who just [ __ ] killed it that week and then sadly the weakest Baker of that week is eliminated until finally a Winner's crowned from the three contestants who

(32:15) make it to the final and each episode has a different theme so the first episode is usually cake week and then week two is biscuits or what we Americans call cookies very different a biscuit is from KFC with honey that's what I'm saying right but their cookies are like all crunchy and I know you like an almost raw yeah raw if I can help it yes so yeah the signature bake is a chance for the Bakers to share their tried and true recipes things they're comfortable baking for family and friends they're given like a very brief

(32:54) Pro like bake a cake it can be whatever flavor it can have whatever decorations just as long as it's completed in a set time and then the second challenge which always stresses me the [  ] out is the technical Challenge and they're given the name of a baked good and they're given all the ingredients and then they're given an incredibly vague recipe and they're like all right finish it in 2 hours in 15 minutes and the recipe will literally be like step one make a custard [  ] I don't [ __ ] know to I wouldn't even know where to start yeah

(33:33) exactly right but you know obviously very clearly testing their basic knowledge and technical skills as a baker and then lastly we have the showstopper go all [ __ ] out at the end of this and it's it's a bake that combines both their skills as a baker as well as their skills as an artist make it beautiful make it it's stunning to look at but it also has to be delicious and it also has to be done in a certain amount of time so you know the structure of the show is a very basic competition and our television and our streaming

(34:17) programs are saturated with a bunch of game shows and cooking shows and reality TV so why is it that this particular show has really stood out and garnered such a huge fan base like I don't know if you ever watched Iron Chef M where everything is so stressful everything is so life or death and it's like everyone is an enemy and like it's so harsh and it's so Cutthroat and this show the Great British Bake Off is just the complete antithesis of all of that MH it is such a delight to watch and I think it's mainly because every single season's

(35:01) contestants are just so pure like they're just genuinely good honest people who lead very normal lives people that you see yourself actually wanting to be friends with of all ages of all ethnic backgrounds all walks of life but all so wonderfully kind and chk in classic British way JK I really had to spell that one out in my head to understand it is my accent like not it sounded like you were saying JK JK please stop okay also the show is famous for its very Blas sexual innuendos that are constantly interwoven in the dialogue

(35:55) surrounding talking about baked goods like they'll be talking about a custard filled pastry and the judge will be explaining the proper way to fill the custard quite often I need two holes so that I can squirt said in like the most dead pan Posh British accent oh my God I didn't know this yeah like you have to find it but like it's oh it's there it's for sure there there was another episode where like for the showstopper they had to create a cake that resembled an animal and this [ __ ] woman decided you know what I'm going to make a beaver

(36:33) and then everyone's like all right let's try her Beaver oh no no I mean it's kind of funny but anyway I mean as with any reality show or competition you as the viewer start to see more of the contestants and their personalities and you start to pick your favorites and root for them week after week but as you the viewer are learning more about these people on this show you watch as they themselves the contestants start to bond with each other start to form their own friendships and you see something that is so rarely captured in reality

(37:26) TV you see them support one another and cheer each other on yes the challenges can be stressful at times there are hiccups and baks that don't go according to plan and yes at the end of the day this is a competition with only one crowned winner but I think above all it is the purest display of the best parts of humanity friendship creating something so that other people can be nourished displaying Artistry building community and the classic British cheekiness JK JK I have been a fan of the show on and off since probably 2019 I haven't

(38:20) watched every single series but over our Christmas break I had the chance to catch the latest season on Netflix which is cycle 12 series 12 season 12 I don't [ __ ] know 12 and it was just like exactly it was exactly what I needed like just turn your brain off have this on feel comforted and just find enjoyment in this very relaxing easily digestible show I think of all of the seon Seasons I'd watched this by far was my favorite group of Bakers I cried so I cried so many times throughout this season so many times so

(39:13) let me tell you why so I'm going to show arens a clip of the intro from cycle 12 for those of you that want to follow along this is the first two minutes of episode one I know you've seen the before previous Seasons but I kind of just want you get like a feel of like who these contestants are and just kind of bring us back to what the show is like sorry I forgot for a moment that we were um I know I was like oh [ __ ] I forgot we were in the middle of recing um I was like okay so can't wait to get in oh my God okay but you see what I mean it's

(39:54) just it's just so easy to watch it's just so charm so [ __ ] cute they're so sweet yes yes is that just what it's like over there in the UK okay so for my story today I want to introduce one of my favorite contestants from the season you saw glimpses of her in that intro her name is Nelly and according to her bio on the Bake Off website Nelly is a 44-year-old wife and mother to two boys and she works as a paliative nurse in Dorset she grew up in Slovakia and then moved to Austria to study nursing and then eventually found her s in the

(40:44) UK and she loves incorporating flavors of Slovakian Cuisine into her bakes as well as spices representing her husband's Pakistani Heritage M and she's just a r pure [ __ ] sunshine I love her mhm and at first I thought that she would be kind of intimidating and kind of like in your face just because she does give off a very strong presence but over the course of the show you realize how Goofy and silly she is but more importantly you realize how big her heart is let me just show you some of her your moments on the

(41:28) show just so you can get a Vibe for like how hilarious she is so I'm going to show aens a Tik Tok edit of Nelly's funniest moments uploaded by user at Henrietta Shaw on Tik Tok so cute she's just so funny okay so arens now that you have a little taste of what Nelly is like and understand how she was able to charm the world I want to show you one of her bakes that she did and this is from the showstopper challenge during biscuit week mhm and for the showstopper each contestant had to create a [ __ ] Puppet Theater out of biscuits so here

(42:17) is Nelly's and for those of you that want to follow along to this specific scene this is at the 48 and 1/2 minute Mark of episode 2 okay so just showed ARS the clip and in this scene Nelly is working on her Puppet Theater and in her Puppet Theater scene she shows a couple dancing through a forest remember this is all made of [ __ ] biscuits okay so to her the forest represents the obstacles in her life the darkness the challenges and it's through her prince charming her husband that she's guided to the light in the form of a sunset

(43:12) backdrop and that light symbolizes all the happiness that she and her husband have found together as they're dancing there are also two other biscuit people playing near them and those represent their two two sons but hanging above this family are five stars and those five stars represent their five unborn children and this is what Nelly has to say they belong there even if you don't born them you carry them in you all your life so I can't miss them on my show can I you know you going in your life through so many obstacles and a force

(43:57) present all these horrible obstacles which we have to do in our lives and it's dark and it's painful but in every tunnel and every Forest is a light maybe small teeny weeny but you'll get them and then it's going to be a big one and this is just a perfect example of what happens when you let your life inform your art it becomes so much more meaningful and what I love about this is that Nelly who again is from Slovakia is speaking somewhat broken English the grammar isn't perfect the words aren't exactly right but who cares

(44:59) because behind the words are such raw and pure wisdom that only comes from experience you know the message and the feelings underneath you are still connected to Nelly in this moment because the Heartbreak and the joy that comes with living her life is the same feelings that we experience in ours so yeah I have few more clips that I want to show of Nelly they're pretty quick this next one is from the technical challenge in episode three so for this challenge they have to create a seven strand plated wreath of bread and

(45:46) uh let's see how Nelly did and this is from episode 3 at the 36 and a half minute Mark so spoiler Nelly got first place in this technical challenge in episode three and when she gets first every single one of the contestants are cheering her on I mean this happens in every episode in every season someone does so well and everyone just wholeheartedly and earnestly celebrates that person in that moment like I don't know the camaraderie amongst all these contestants like I don't know it's just so genuine right it's so

(46:32) pure so they're patting Nelly on the back they're smiling they're clapping they're rooting for her and Nelly is sitting there and you can tell she's holding back tears as Paul the judge whose whole [ __ ] brand is bread is commending her and in her interview afterwards Nelly says it's very hard for me to take compliments because all of my life I wasn't good enough and for Paul the king of bread it was the biggest compliment I could have I mean I don't know I should you see how like these contestants they just

(47:11) burrow their way into your heart you know okay so my last Nelly clip is from the end of episode 6 and spoiler spoiler spoiler a apologies if you don't want to know what the spoilers just go watch all 10 episodes and then come back to this but at the end of this episode Nelly gets eliminated and let's just watch how she takes it throws everything so Hearts broke around the world when no one of the hosts announces that Nelly is eliminated all the contestants on the show are kind of shocked they're kind of just sitting there stunned and sad and

(48:13) then they Embrace her with their love and the judge comes over to her and hugs her and says I'm so sorry and she says don't be silly I'm so ready and then she does this interview afterwards and she says I know my children are so proud maybe I'm only sixth place but you know what it's not to teach them win it's to teach them enjoy and then it cuts back to Everyone crying and her voice over again of course I'm happy in each of your hearts is a piece of Nelly and you're never going to forgot me and that was my aim just perfect like no

(49:05) words I think this show just taught me how there are so many more important things than winning it's about being present it's about enjoying your passions it's about challenging yourself it's about building community and learning that celebrating someone else's successes will never take away from your own worth and I just loved how Nelly said that once this journey for her came to an end she was so ready for what was next like if only we all had that Grace and that wisdom to not look at this as a loss but to look at this as a

(50:12) win I just hope that this new year allows all of us a clean slate to put these idic thoughts into action and at the end of the year we can look back with pride over all the things that we did and enjoyed and buildt and celebrate with some nice treal tart beautiful it was so effortless and genuine the way she was like no I'm so ready and cuz you know how sometimes you don't want to be a sore loose loser and you tried so hard to find the silver lining but for her like no genuinely like what a gift the whole thing was for

(51:06) her mhm for us yes to see that yeah and just like it's not to teach them win it's to teach them enjoy God she's she's such a good mom right wow the thing is yes I cried for so many of these Snelly moments uh she was one of but 12 contestants that made me cry like there were so many other moments on this season that made me cry my story was just getting way too long but I think just at the core of all of it is just a group of people that start off as strangers and then they go through this competition that challenges

(51:54) each of them in so many ways and instead of viewing each other as competition they come out as family and I love that piece she said at the end about you all leave with a piece of me I was like are you kidding me what yeah the show's [ __ ] up so yeah highly recommend Great British big off yeah if you're looking for something sweet sentimental and just so perfectly British and you know I just I don't even have to try hard to link our stories mhm it was there it was there I'm not even going to say it cuz dear listener you
